Thank you …

Whether we end this race with a win or come up short, we couldn't have done it without you.

Everything going on in our country and in the rest of the world makes a city council race seem very, very small. It’s not nothing, but I still can’t help but feel that my name is the least important thing on the ballot.

But as I write this the day before Election Day, I’ve decided that’s wrong. Win or lose, this has been worth doing, and it is important.

There are 5,718 registered voters in District 1 on this Election Day. We’ve given them an option. We’ve given them — we’ve given ourselves, really — a choice. That’s the main reason I got into this. I wanted to have a choice for someone other than who has actively worked against important issues in our district and in the city, and someone who has worked for it.

Elections are about winning, sure. But they’re also about holding officials accountable, even if you don’t win.

So in that sense, mission accomplished. I’m going to sleep pretty well on Tuesday night one way or another. I hope you can, too.

As this little run comes to a close, I want to say thank you.

Thank you to, of course, our donors — both in town and across the country. Your contributions made it possible for us to get the word out, whether it was digitally, in mailboxes, or with yard signs.

And thank you to everyone who allowed us to put a sign in your yard. I know it turned many of you into a target — probably not what you expected.

And thank you to everyone who simply said “I think you’d be great on City Council.” Whether or not we win, you made an old man feel good about his life in Pensacola.

That’s all any of us can really hope for.

So thanks again, from myself, Shannon, and the girls. And be sure to vote.
